Apartment building at Asyrmatos
Region around Filopappou Hill, 1967
Architect
Elli Vassilikioti (1923-)
This is a remarkable apartment building for low-income
residents of the period designed by architect Elli Vasilikioti within
the framework of studies for the Housing Service of the Ministry of
Public Works. The complex consists of eight shops and 55 apartments
with independent entrances off corridors along the façade, that
are arranged on four floors.
The functional organisation of the building and its structural system
are expressed with honesty and stylistic clarity in the treatment of
the facades.
There is an interesting adaptation of the building to the special nature
of the contoured lot and the steep slope of Filopappou Hill. The central
part of the second level became a large balcony with a splendid view
of the sea, access to which is over a bridge from the ring road around
Filopappou.
