Office building of "O1 IT" group

438 Acharnon and Konstanta Sts, 2000-2001

Architect
Amalia Kotsaki

Amalia Kotsaki’s building is a noteworthy contribution to late modernism in Greece. It is a reconstruction of a 1970 five-storey building, which was fully gutted inside and out, and only the reinforced concrete structure was retained.
The main aim of the proposal was to design a simple and imposing structure that would discreetly express the dynamism and prestige of an up-and-coming information technology company and the state-of-the-art technology it represents.
Access is from Konstanta St onto an elevated ground floor. The first to fourth floors are offices for the company staff and small meeting rooms. The restaurant is situated on part of the first floor. The fifth floor includes the administration offices, a foyer and large meeting room with multimedia, which leads to the roof. The roof with its pergola constitutes the crown of the building and its elevated finial, a type of pylon, bears the company’s logo.
The facades have a two-dimensional plasticity achieved through the use of exterior sheeting with metal thermal insulation panels in two tones of metallic grey and stainless steel shade panels.
To ensure the working people a quiet and pleasant environment, the interiors of the building are fairly plain, without any particular emphasis on the company’s technological orientation. The materials used are wood, stainless steel, frosted and clear crystal, and leather – all in their natural colours.
