The office building of the construction company Michaniki is a worthwhile example of Athenian architecture of the 1990s, in step with the international – mainly Italian – late modern trends of the period. The design by architects Andreas Kourkoulas and Maria Kokkinou won the competition held by the client company.
The complex consists of three autonomous office buildings with a total area of 8650 m2 that have a two-storey entranceway, three floors and a basement. The two buildings on opposite corners of the lot have simple geometric volumes – a cube and a triangular prism – and follow the line of the street. The third building, which is a 100-m long parallelogram with one corner canted, is positioned dynamically on the diagonal of the lot. The two corner buildings are faced with marble whereas the middle one is of brick and has a curved roof of oxidized copper.
The scale of the complex is retained by the dimensions, the rhythm of the openings and the use of earth colours. The open ground is landscaped as the background of the design and united with the public space.
