House in Pallini

Pallini Attica, 1998-2000

Architect
Amalia Kotsaki

This remarkable house was designed by Amalia Kotsaki, one of the most active architects of the past five years with many first prizes in architectural competitions, who was recently awarded the Academy of Athens prize for young Greek architects.
The house, which belongs to Aristidis Solidakis, is in the Mesogeia area on an estate of 1.6 hectares, verdant with olive groves. The building is a large two-storey home laid out in wing around an atrium that constitutes the core of the synthesis.
The same compositional principle was followed in the outdoor area as well, which is laid out around a large courtyard defined by the colonnades of the house and the auxiliary buildings and includes a pool. On the ground floor of the building are the living and dining rooms, kitchen, a casual dining room and three children’s bedrooms, as well as an independent guest wing, while on the upper floor is the parents’ apartment.
The main aim was the full harmonisation of the building with the landscape. Stone masonry, rough plaster containing ground terracotta, tiled wooden structures with visible wooden trusses, and unpolished marble are some of the materials selected to express the earth-based nature of the building.
