Samourka detached home P. Psychiko, Attica, 1994-1999 Architect Zoe Samourka (1962-) This detached house by Zoe Samourka is a distinguished example of neo-modern architecture in Greece. Built in one of the most expensive suburbs of Athens, it has three levels. On the ground floor is the entrance and garage, on the first floor the living areas and on the second the bedrooms. On plan, it is structured freely within a rectangular space defined by the grid of the support columns. Horizontal and vertical circulation is parallel to the lengthwise axis. Whereas the building as a whole is inscribed in a rectangle, the floors create slits in the volume and emphasise the asymmetrical arrangement of the semi-outdoor areas. The interior and exterior surfaces are of bare concrete. In addition to the openings toward the semi-outdoor areas, the lengthwise surfaces of the windows are protected by a system of wooden louvers that organise the elevations rhythmically. The Samourka house is characterised by consistency in its building solution, stylistic simplicity and construction clarity that is emphasised by the use of materials in their natural form. This neo-modern home was one of the works included in the Greek participation in the 7th International Biennale of Architecture in Venice (2000). TRANSPORTATION |
