Three residences
10 Chiou and Ko Sts, Kifissia, Attica, 1996-1999
Architect
Takis Koumbis (1955-)
The three dwellings designed by Takis Koumbis in
Kifissia are among the clearest expressions of Greek neo-modernism,
and were included in the Greek participation in the 7th International
Biennale of Architecture in Venice (2000).
The building is a complex of three residences on a lot facing on two
streets with independent entrances. Two of the apartments are duplexes
with an area of 172 m2 and 147 m2 respectively, have their entrance
on Ko St and are interconnected by means of a semi-outdoor balcony on
the higher level. Under this level is the third apartment with an area
of 41m2 and its entrance on 10 Chiou St.
The basement houses parking facilities, service areas etc.; on the ground
floor is the living room, and on the first floor the bedrooms that are
connected by the balcony.
The long building is split into separate volumes, a fact that makes
possible the interesting play of light and shade.
The aim of the design was to liberate the volume of the building and
transform it into a "weightless" structure with the result
that a sense of suspended volumes is created.
The materials used to treat the façades are plastered concrete
and glass with aluminium profiles.
